Greenhouse EffectGreenhouse Effect is actually two places next door to each other. On the left is the coffeeshop, on the right the hotel and bar.

The coffeeshop has some quality marijuana but I particularly like the bar for a late drink and smoke. At the back is a comfy seating area watched over by gnomes in the wall. The music is usually quite loud and bassy and there are live DJs on Saturday night. There are mirror balls and disconnected images from MTV show on the TVs.

I had my first experience of a Volcano vaporizer in this shop and was so impressed that we now have one at home.

My #2 choice of the trip to make a buy. Staff were all younger girls who were super-friendly and eager to serve. The product was dynamite: Bio Haze was one of the purest, cleanest weeds I have ever smoked. Very clear and bright high. Kali Mist perfect wake-up smoke to start your day. Space bakery looked delicious, will try them next time.

We didn't stay here for long, since it's a small coffeeshop and we had 3 backpacks. We only went here to get some space cakes and cookies. Best ones I've ever tasted! And their service is excellent, my friend was really stoned and forgot 15 euros of change at the desk. Then the nice lady came after him and gave back the change, she said it was a little too big tip.

Very nice shop if a little small, looked out of window for ages. People watchin is fab when stoned on haze!

Really nice Silver Haze and cool to chill in for a bit. Ben Harper, Jimmy Hendrix tunes. But the space chocolate, and space banana cakes are not to be missed. We had them right after breakfast every morning and were great the entire afternoon. Even better was eating one on the plane during the flight back to Boston. It's hard to describe being high while you are 30,000 ft!

Me and four mates stayed in the hotel and I have to say we had a really great time. The room was tidy and the beds were some comfy shit! The bar was really safe to chill in, which we did for a good while on the last day to make for an interesting flight home. Didn't want to leave at all! Cheers Greenhouse Effect and I will see you soon. Oh and by the way, Greenhouse Special is some tasty green aswell.

Don't really know what to say bout this place, they sold good weed and they had one of them volcano vaporisers which knocked my socks off but it was quite a small pokey place and the staff were really rude.

Their own stuff was pretty good, I think it was called Greenhouse special, surprisingly. It's quite a small place but I thought very good if you can get in when it's emptyish.

Staying near the RLD we always were looking for a late night place that was chill that had techno beer and smokes. The staff were cool and good seats in back to hang on I liked the bar seats or the ones by the front window. Check out the Dj setup in front, pretty nifty eh. Had sorta a locals feel to it not too tourist feeling even though most there are tourists. Good stop I will be back.

Stayed here [in the hotel] April 2nd - 5th 2004 and really found it to be a good place to chill. The smoke was good and in abundant supply, we bought a bag of Temple Ball and it was a nice smooth smoke. The room we stayed in (English Rose) was clean and tidy but the stairs were an ordeal (especially after some of Amsterdam's finest). Excellent location with the RLD just a stones throw away, also the Centraal Station was very close by too. Breakfast was tasty and simple and the staff were friendly too. Nice touch was the smoke menu in the room which also gets you discount if you show your key in the coffeeshop too. The Canadian girl with the funny hat was nice and cheerful. Will definitely try to visit next April but hoping for a room nearer the door this time. All in all a good hotel with good smoke, location and great staff, miss this at your peril.

Great place for a beer, great smoke. Hawaiian mist was great. Not super crowded at the bar.

I like the location since it was a one minute walk from our hotel in the RLD. The weedtender was cool. The bar lady could use an attitude adjustment, but hey, every now and then you have a bad day. The shop is real skinny with the bar and weed dealers at the back. I bought a gram of Top Himalayan hash. Nice and soft black, but a shitty taste for 12 Euros a gram. Maybe that's the way all black hashes taste, it was my first time trying it. My friend purchased some Northern Lights, it was okay, but I wasn't expecting much anyway. Stop in if you're in the area, but I wouldn't walk miles to go here.

I was deeply disappointed. The staff was rude. There was a small lady who looked like Skin from Skunk Anansie. Shaven skulled black lady with an attitude problem. I ordered a space shake and an orange juice for my girlfriend, so she made me an orange and chocolate flavoured hash smoothie. Which was sick I must say. But the next day I thought I'd give it another go. The same thing. This time I was treated to a near fight with "Skin" and what seemed to me another member of staff. But the G/F says it was with patrons. Amsterdam is eating itself. I used to go regularly. But when I went there this year nearly all of the coffee shops no longer want tourist's custom. They opened the windows and doors wide letting in sub zero temperatures.

We were coming down off mushrooms and me and my compadres needed somewhere to chill. We found the Greenhouse, just off the Red Light District, wasn't too busy so went in and got a 10 euro deal of Greenhouse Effect Special. Nice smoke, not too heavy, just right for soothing my mushroom fried brain. Got a nice big bong from behind the bar (10 euro returnable deposit) and smoked a few bales. Felt amazing, really enjoyed the atmosphere and got a couple of beers at 3.30 each, pretty damn cheap for the area. Also had a go on the in house volcano vaporizer, very nice, a cool coffeeshop/bar.

We just got back from staying at the greenhouse effects and were greatly disappointed!! The shitty room in which we stayed literally smelled of SHIT. Not to mention that it was in the very back with a window that looked out to the back window of a bar. It was noisy and HIGH priced for what we received. The disappointment is hard to put into words!!! Please advise on the website for those who have never been beware that this place is quiet sketchy!!!

Definitely the best coffeeshop and bar in Amsterdam. The coffeeshop weighs your gear right there in front of you (no rip offs) and a good selection on the menu. Buy your "goods" here, then go next door into their bar and smoke and chill. Staff, music, drinks and atmosphere are all an excellent way to relax, before tackling the "pssssst pssssst" merchants in the RLD.

One of my favorites!!! If coming in at central station, head straight down Damrak and take your first left, then a left on Warmoesstratt and you're there, 5 mins. at most, depending on how distracted you get. This place is very laid back contrary to its surroundings in the Red Light district, but this fact also makes it unique, in an oasis in the desert type of way. In August I tried to acquire the highly recommended "Slyder," they even had it scribbled on the menu, but they told me it would be two weeks. Oh well, so I got my usual, the "Greenhouse Special," which at 7 euros a gram, you can never go wrong. the Special is a wonderful bio greenbud that smells and tastes both fruity and skunky. The crystals are abundant and it smokes very smoothly, but don't let it fool you, this stuff will catch up with ya. They have a very good selection of high quality weed, both Nederland and foreign, as well as several types of hash, plus they weigh it for you right there. The staff is very friendly and know what they are talking about. They serve all types of coffee drinks, juices, tea, energy drinks, Heineken, and you must try their "Space Shake." Even though small the Greenhouse effect is very cozy and chill inside, w/ a great table right in the front where you can sit and look out the open window to the busy street full of people. Next door is a bar and a hotel which the greenhouse runs as well. The bar is a fun place w/ great happy hour type deals and a small, but quality bier selection. When done there go out the front door, take a right, then another right and you will be in the middle of the Red Light district and plenty of other fun places to go.

Among the friendliest staff we encountered. The woman helping us clearly knows her stuff, even helped me narrow down the purchase by whether I was a heavy or light smoker (heavy) and whether I wanted to be "stoned or high." We were headed out to the bars, so we opted for the Bio-effect for a good "high." Very good stuff, great taste, lasted for hours without making us tired. Definitely will go back.

Situated conveniently on the way to the red light district I think we went there by accident while looking for one of the other coffee shops also called "Greenhouse". The main advantage of this place is that it sells cheap alcohol and has a happy hour from 8-10 so it was ideal for the people in our group who were not smokers. The staff were really friendly and pointed us in the right direction for music and clubs when they closed. The Northern Lights here was simply lush and we purchased several grams over our stay. Their vaporiser is great also and I recommend it to everyone to have a go!

Down to earth, cheery employees. Easy to book room online from the 'States as my friend and I did. Low quality free breakfast included with room. We usually made it on time. Noisy with Warmoestraat being right below and outside. Lots of loud tourists, sometimes drunk and stumbling... Not very charming. Good alcohol bar. Good beers and so on. I brought in a bottle of absinthe that I'd obtained during the day and shared it with the employees and fellow patrons, everyone was happy. A younger, mostly U.K. crowd however and I felt a bit old for the goings on (I'm 32) ... Will probably stay out of this tourist-dense area next time. Great bud (grass) and hash selection next door at the train-car like Coffeeshop. The 'slyder' is some outstanding bud, worth seeking out... They Kept running out while I was there, word has gotten out to the Amsterdam locals and it seems to be one of their smokes of choice. Slyder is a mostly Afghani strain with great spicy aroma and relaxing stone. The "Indian hash" is a top-notch conventional style hash that is worth getting hold of as well. Wow, what a fragrance. Mmm, mellow happy stone too.

Nice staff and nice grass. This place had the nicest staff out of all of the coffeeshops that we visited. I bought some Northern Lights which was very nice. He even gave me a free packet of papers. What a nice place!

I have stayed here on two occasions in the past year and I think you have under rated the place compare it to the La Canna the service is better; you get served with a smile and a thank you. The drink is a good price if you are staying there - happy hour all day. And next door the coffee shop is small but has some of the best smoke around. Try the White Widow most ex and supper sciff Is the best I have tasted, bio very good, nep temp ball very good when they have it. To cut to the point, I have tried some twenty cafes in the Amsterdam centre and the Greenhouse Effect gets ten out of ten in my book. Try the milkshakes; be warned it will blow your socks/tights off.

This place is great , We stayed in one of the themed rooms of the Greenhouse Hotel (Dutch flowers room) it was big, very clean and comfortable and not a bad price at 105 euros per night. (min 3 nights stay). the greenhouse effect coffee shop is long and thin and has a very good selection of weed and hash , try their Thai weed ( for a not that strong smoke) or their Greenhouse Special (for a mental smoke) very nice. The staff in the Greenhouse Bar were very nice and helpful when I wanted to find a good Hard Dance club to go If you stay in the Hotel you get breakfast included (but we didn't make it out of bed before 12 noon each day to get to breakfast in Time) !! but you will get Happy hour priced drinks all day in the bar (pints of larger and cider only). We would DEFIANTLY recommend this place to anyone. next time we go back to the Dam we will stay their again. ...Great sound system to and good tunes to smoke and drink to. ....EXCELLENT PLACE.

Stayed at the Greenhouse Effect Hotel. I took the single room called the Red Light Room. Very cool staff, bar, weed (try their Thai), and themed rooms. Good price. I'd stay there again. Right in the heart of the action on Warmeosstraat. Only for people who want to be in the middle of the crazies - like me!

Another dark coffeeshop, small, not much room and there was no wallpaper on the walls. Good selection of weed and hash though.

This was my first stop because it was just a block up Warmoesstraat, and I had been so pleased with their Bubblegum from my trip last year. Definitely, print out a page of their website to take when you visit them. True to their word, they offer a very nice discount for "finding them on the web". They knock 5 guilders off the customary 25 guilder purchase. So I got a full order split 2 ways - the Special and the Bio-Haze for 20 guilders. No Bubblegum or Shiva available. The friendly Brit dealer told me that because of their location they were considered a "tourist shop", but that they tried very hard to keep their offerings on a par with the "connoisseur shops". I'll vouch for this, as I liked their Bubblegum last year more than the CC-winning Super Silver Haze I got at the Greenhouse Centrum. While I was there 2 people came in separately and bought the 5 gram max. Dealer said that a lot of locals and Dutch out-of-towners get their stashes there.

The Greenhouse Effect was OK - nice staff and good product but more expensive.

I really like this place because of the 4 fl Kriek beer they sell - that's $1.20 to me instead of $7.00 which is what I pay here - and the staff - really nice. Saw a guy pass out one time from smoking too much, I guess, and the people who were working there did everything they could to make him feel comfortable and not embarrassed when he came to. Probably my favorite just to hang and smoke. Love the Special and White Widow. They also had some weed called Slide, which was amazingly sticky and white. Although a couple of bartenders at de Kuil thought it tasted too much like perfume for their liking, it was my winner of the weekend.
